Fall Sunsets in Huntington Beach
Back to Top of ListThere's nothing like a Huntington Beach sunset, but something about the change of season from summer to fall just takes it to another level. According to weather.com, this has to do with color wavelengths. Blue light has a short wavelength so it gets scattered easiest by air molecules. Reds and oranges are made up of longer wavelengths so they are not scattered as easily by air molecules.
During sunrises and sunsets, the sun's light must pass through much more atmosphere before it even reaches our eyes, meaning the light comes into contact with more and more air molecules. Much of the blue light gets scattered away, making the reds, oranges, and pinks more pronounced. Weather patterns in the fall allow dry, clean Canadian air to sweep across much of the country, allowing more colors of the spectrum to make it to our eyes without getting scattered by air molecules. Thus, brilliant sunsets that paint the Huntington Beach skies all hues of reds, oranges, yellows, and pinks.
All of this doesn't discount the fact that watching a sunset in the fall just feels generally more cozy when you can bundle up and enjoy it with a warm beverage.
