Huntington Beach Independence Day Events

The largest 4th of July event west of the Mississippi is once again hosting all of its beloved traditions during this annual weekend of Independence Day festivities. The City of Huntington Beach held its very first 4th of July Celebration over 120 years ago, and today, the annual tradition attracts more than 500,000 attendees.

Huntington Beach residents are encourage to decorate their homes and enter the Home Decorating Contest. There are two contests: 

  • Main Street Parade Route
    • Main Street residential addresses only
    • 600 block of Main Street to 17th Street
    • Awards: Mayor's Award, Best in Show, Best Use of Theme
  • HB City Wide
    • One winner from each HB zip code: 92646, 92647, 92648, 92649

Friday, July 4: Surf City 5K

Surf City 5K

The Surf City 5K takes place along the historic route of Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway. Enjoy an "All-American" start to this holiday by running along the parade route and seeing the famous Huntington Beach Pier and beautiful Pacific Ocean before a gentle sloping return to Worthy Park for the finish. 

  • Resident 5K - 7 a.m.
  • Open 5K - 8 a.m.
  • Stroller 5K - 8:15 a.m.
  • Kids Fun Run (1 mile) - 9 a.m.

To accommodate the race, the following street closures will be in place beginning at 5 a.m.: 

  • Pacific Coast Highway (Goldenwest St. to Beach Blvd.)
  • Main Street (Pacific Coast Highway to Gothard)

Friday, July 4: Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast

The Kiwanis Club of Huntington Beach is hosting their annual Pancake Breakfast on July 4 at Lake Park starting at 7 a.m. They start flipping their famous pancakes early so the runners, families, and lovers of the holiday can start their morning with a delicious breakfast. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit children in need in Huntington Beach.

July 4 Parade Resize (Greg Peterson)

Watch the biggest 4th of July Parade west of the Mississippi River on the 4th of July at 10 a.m. Local businesses, classic cars, the Huntington Beach High School cheerleaders, the Huntington Beach Mayor, and more put on a show for residents and visitors alike. The parade will start on Pacific Coast Highway and 9th Street, going from 9th Street to Main Street, where it will proceed through downtown and residential areas, ending just past Yorktown Avenue.

Fireworks Over the Ocean

Closing out the day of celebration will be an awe-inspiring fireworks show presented by the Mayer Family Foundation. The show starts at 9 p.m. and takes place over the iconic Huntington Beach Pier, free to view from the beach or downtown HB. Community Events in Huntington Beach - Concert in Downtown Huntington Beach

The annual celebration closes with the Main Street Block Party on July 5 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Ramsey Brothers and Redneck Rodeo will perform on stage while local bars and restaurants open their doors to all looking to celebrate.
