A Great Day in the Stoke
September 27, 2025
The first A Great Day in the Stoke (AGDITS) was held in Huntington Beach on June 4, 2022, and was the largest gathering of Black surfers in history. The event created a safe space for Black surfers to connect, compete, recognize and award community leaders, provide surf lessons, and capture an iconic photo similar to ones taken at A Great Day in Harlem (1958) and A Great Day in Hip-Hop (1998).
The goal of A Great Day in the Stoke is to welcome all communities and allies to surf in unity. Organizers and founders want to show Black surfers worldwide that they exist in mass and help aspiring surfers feel like they could get in the water just as they are. They also want to emphasize the fact that now is the time to support and invest in the growing BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) surf community.
A Great Day in the Stoke is free to spectate and welcomes all BIPOC communities and allies to surf in unity. If you're interested in becoming an event sponsor, click here.
