The City of Huntington Beach is continuing to monitor the current situation in regard to the spread of COVID-19 in our community and has taken several steps to prevent community spread and assist with social distancing measures outlined in Governor Newsom’s Stay at Home Order.
As of today, the City of Huntington Beach has closed the pier, all beach parking lots as well as active recreational amenities throughout the city.
The Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard Program has a long history of placing a top priority on the safety of the children who are enrolled and in order to continue with this tradition, the Huntington Beach Fire Department Marine Safety Division has made the decision to temporarily suspend any further registrations in the program.
The COVID-19 situation remains fluid and the future impacts to city services are still unknown at this time. As more information becomes available and the scope of the impacts from COVID-19 become clearer, additional updates on the status of the program will be given. At this time, the program is not being cancelled.
- Those parents who have already registered their children will remain on the list
- Returning students will still get priority registration as soon as the registration suspension is lifted and closing dates will be adjusted accordingly
- All new Junior Lifeguards and Sand Crabs will have to try out and meet prescribed requirements
- At this time all tryouts have been suspended
In the event that the program is cancelled, more information will be released in regard to tuition refunds from those families that have already registered their children in the program.
On Tuesday evenings, program status updates will be posted on the Junior Lifeguard website.
