HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – April 15, 2025 – After months of speculation for hosting surfing or beach volleyball competition in the upcoming LA28 Olympics, Huntington Beach was not selected as an official competition venue. However, Visit Huntington Beach, the private, non-profit and official destination marketing organization for iconic Surf City USA®, remains excited for the years leading up to the Games and will focus on creating an unforgettable summer of excitement.
“As a beach city synonymous with surf and sand, we were honored to be considered in the Olympic Games conversation,” said Kelly Miller, President & CEO of Visit Huntington Beach, the non-profit and official destination marketing organization for iconic Surf City USA®. “While we’re not an official venue for LA28, we’re proud to be part of the energy and spirit of the Games. With our ideal coastal location between Los Angeles and Orange County competition sites, Huntington Beach will be the ultimate fan destination before, during and after the Olympics.”
Huntington Beach had been widely rumored as a potential venue for surfing and beach volleyball, thanks to its legendary waves and Pier, miles of expansive beaches, and a proven track record hosting world-class events. While the final decisions went in a different direction, this opens up a world of opportunities to double down on the destination’s coastal offerings and offer Olympic-inspired experiences for visitors and locals alike.
“Our city’s heart beats with surf, sun, and sport,” said Peter “PT” Townend, former world champion surfer and Surf City USA® ambassador. “Huntington Beach may not be a competition site, but we’re still the global epicenter of surf culture and an ideal gathering place for fans during LA28.”
Perfectly positioned along the Pacific Coast Highway and easily accessible from major Olympic hubs in Los Angeles and Orange County, Huntington Beach remains ready to welcome visitors around the world. From the iconic Huntington Beach Pier to the International Surfing Museum, Surfing Walk of Fame, and endless beachfront activities, Surf City USA® promises a quintessential SoCal beach experience like no other.
“As LA28 approaches, we will continue to lean into what we do best—creating unforgettable magic moments by the ocean,” added Miller. “We will be working closely with LA28, National Olympic Committees and National Governing Bodies to provide training opportunities for thousands of athletes preparing for LA28. We invite fans, families, and athletes to stay, play, and celebrate in Surf City USA® all summer long.”
