Huntington Beach hosts some of the best parks, reserves, and wetlands in Orange County, many of which have been restored thanks to dedicated volunteers. Our city is home to about 70 parks—the largest (in all of Orange County) and most lush being Huntington Beach Central Park. Inside the park, Shipley Nature Center features 18 acres of California native habitat, a monarch butterfly waystation, educational center, and charming gift shop. Flowing through the northern tip of town is the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, the largest saltwater marsh along coastal California between the Monterey Bay and the Tijuana River Estuary. In addition to our 10-mile paved boardwalk and plethora of parks, countless trails weave through the coastline and hills of Orange County—making it a prime place to pound the dirt for both casual hikers and avid outdoorsmen alike.
