Located inside Kimpton Shorebreak Resort, the inviting Pacific Hideaway makes its presence known with a striking design, highlighted by a colorful, floral mural on brick known as Frida. "Hideaway" in the title is an apt description — tucked unassumingly above bustling 5th Street, it's the little secret you hope not too many people find out about, yet you can't stop talking about. Part sophisticated SoCal restaurant, part international beach shack, Pacific Hideaway serves up everything from healthy kick-starters in the morning including açaí bowls and the signature hash benny to the hideaway burger, Lao sausage lettuce wraps and whole crispy fish that could feed you and all your closest friends. (If they're not with you, you're bound to make some new ones here.)
Inspired by surf cultures around the Pacific region, from Latin America to the Pacific Islands, the dishes use local ingredients for maximum flavor. The beverage game, too, is on point, with a full bar featuring a signature cocktail complete with a faux doobie attached by tiny clothespin that could easily veer into kitschy territory, but the quality of its craftsmanship — along with every other drink on the menu, including the non-alcoholic cocktails — prove that style and substance can coexist.
