Film Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach takes pride in being film-friendly, and because of that, we've taken measures to ensure that your filmmaking process is smooth, efficient, and an enjoyable one.

The ten miles of coastline offers a variety of amazing looks - from the beautiful pier, open white-sand beaches, to the rocky backdrop of dog beach. We allow cars on the beach for driving shots, have ample coastal parking, and of course, we're the perfect spot to film a surf scene. But there's much more than just the beaches. We invite you to browse through our online location gallery to see the vastly different types of locations in Huntington Beach.

Huntington Beach is located in Orange County, California, partially within the 30-Mile Zone. It covers 28 square miles of land and 26 square miles of water. Surf City USA's near-perfect sunny, dry, and cool climate is ideal for filming. High temperatures rarely exceed 85°F (29°C) and lows rarely fall below 40°F (4°C).

Ready to apply for a film permit? The City of Huntington Beach does all permitting online. City permits are required for locations such as the Huntington Beach Pier, Huntington City Beach, and all of the city's 78 parks. If you're interested in shooting on either Huntington State Beach or Bolsa Chica State Beach, permitting is done online through the California Film Commission website. You do not need a permit for still photography if the photos are only going to be used for personal use, such as engagement or family photos. Check out our FAQ section for more helpful tips before applying.
