History of Music in Huntington Beach  

Music is an integral part of Huntington Beach’s story. In the 1960’s, popular surf music duo Jan and Dean released their hit song “Surf City” and gave Huntington beach its iconic nickname. Huntington Beach is also the birthplace of other iconic music groups like the Dirty Heads, Avenged Sevenfold, Reel Big Fish, The Aquabats, Hellogoodbye, Matt Costa and T.S.O.L.  

The Golden Bear was an entertainment venue in Huntington Beach that opened in the 1920’s and gained popularity in the early 1960’s. Artists like Jimmy Buffett, Jan and Dean, Kenny Rankin, Linda Ronstadt and Jerry Garcia performed there.
