2025 Surf City USA® Foodie Awards Best Coffee Winner: 602 Coffee House
If a morning caffeine fix is a must even on vacation, add 602 Coffee House as the first stop on your itinerary. This winner of the 2025 Surf City USA® Foodie Awards serves up what is indisputably the best coffee in town from its two locations in Huntington Beach.
Opened in 2018 by owner Danny Othman, 602 Coffee House has since become a quintessential neighborhood gathering spot. Its flagship is located downtown at 602 Pacific Coast Highway, offering unparalleled views of the surf and sand just across the street.
Expect casual vibes and a line out the door if you arrive too late. But if you show up at 6:30, you’ll be treated to a powerful brew and a serene setting complete with the sounds of waves crashing in the distance. Grab a seat on the front patio and savor your first cup of the day. After all, the sign on the window got it right: Coffee’s better by the beach.
What to Drink
Good old-fashioned drip coffee is anything but ordinary here. The 602 Coastal Blend is roasted in-house at the Goldenwest location that opened in 2023. Beans sourced from Papua New Guinea and Guatemala create a dark blend that’s bold and chocolatey. Meanwhile, the medium roast Banana Foster coffee beans offer a smooth-drinking alternative that’s great as a cold-brew.
Fun flavors bring life to the signature menu, which features concoctions like the coconut caramel latte—a sweet, creamy sip that comes hot or iced. Lavender, Nutella mocha, and turmeric can also be found on this drink list, or you can try the activated charcoal latte recommended by your friendly barista.
Limited-time offerings include drinks that rotate in with the seasons, like its Lucky Leprechaun white chocolate matcha topped with Lucky Charms that went viral over St. Patrick’s Day. Other holiday-themed favorites include the peppermint mocha latte and, of course, a pumpkin spice that’s elevated with the addition of cold foam.
Eats and Treats
The power bowls are so good that 602 Coffee House added “açaí” to its name. A base featuring a vibrant acai blended sorbet is topped with hemp hearts granola, strawberry, blueberry and protein-packed goodies like peanut butter and banana. Drizzled with a touch of honey, it’s the perfect snack for a warm beach day.
If you’re looking for something savory and comforting to warm you up, bagel egg sandwiches will do the trick. Keep it simple with the PCH version featuring cheese and sausage, or spice it up with the Thiccc Bagel that has sriracha along with avocado, sausage, and bacon. Avocado on thick-sliced honey wheat bread is also a favorite, as is the decadent peanut butter toast that’s the perfect treat any time of day.
602 Coffee House is open seven days a week; the downtown location closes at 6 p.m. and Goldenwest roastery closes at 4 p.m.
