Huntington Beach, Calif., July 28, 2015— The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® “Largest surfboard” is making another appearance in Huntington Beach, where two new titles were set on International Surfing Day, June 20, 2015.  Visit Huntington Beach is organizing the display of the Big Board during the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing on Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31 at the intersection of Main Street and Walnut from 8 a.m. to sunset.

Huntington Beach’s record-breaking surfboard is 42 feet ¼ inches long, 11 feet 1 inch wide and 16 inches thick. As per GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® requirements, the Big Board was built like any other surfboard, just on a larger scale, by local surfboard shapers and boat builders. The board was crafted and designed after one of the famous short boards ridden by Brett Simpson, Hurley sponsored professional surfer and Huntington Beach local.

With a total of 66 former U.S. Open of Surfing winners, Surfing Walk of Fame and Surfers' Hall of Fame inductees, celebrities, and local HB heroes, the riders rode the custom-built surfboard on one epic wave at the famed Huntington Beach Pier last month to earn the titles of “Most people riding a surfboard” and “Largest surfboard.” The Epic Big Board Ride was witnessed by a crowd of thousands in Huntington Beach, California, by millions around the world via online and television broadcast coverage, and critically, by one official Guinness World Records adjudicator.

This will be one of the last opportunities for public viewing before it is displayed at the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum towards the end of the year in Downtown Huntington Beach. It will act as an iconic cultural tribute to one of California’s most distinctive and beloved outdoor sports, allowing the board to become an attraction in itself.
