Pet-Friendly in Huntington Beach

Voted as one of California's dog-friendliest cities, Huntington Beach welcomes four-legged friends with open arms at restaurants, parks, hotels, along its paved beach path, and even dedicates a stretch of beach to salty pups. Locals have invited dogs of all shapes and sizes into their families, and you'll see them everywhere around town. As you plan your visit, check our events calendar for dog-centric events, like the SoCal Corgi Beach Days in the spring and fall.

We don't want you to leave your best friend at home any more than you do. Here's a glimpse of how you and your fur baby can explore town.

Where to Eat

The Park Bench Cafe

  • The Park Bench Cafe - An institution in Huntington Beach for over 30 years, this outdoor cafe on the eastern edge of Huntington Central Park gives dogs the royal treatment with a canine cuisine menu featuring fun options like the "hot diggity dog" and eggs "rover easy." Open for breakfast and lunch, it serves up traditional human favorites like omelets, pancakes, egg burritos, sandwiches, and burgers.
  • Pacific Hideaway - It's no surprise that the restaurant inside the pet-friendly Kimpton Shorebreak Resort invites visitors to dine with their doggie companions. Sip on craft cocktails or California wines while savoring coastal surf-inspired cuisine with views of the iconic pier. Don't miss happy hour Sunday through Thursday after enjoying a long afternoon at dog beach.
  • Sandy's Beach Shack - Located right next to the pier, this laid-back beachfront eatery has a patio that gives dogs an up-close view of the shore. Seafood specials, burgers, soups, and salads are available daily for lunch and dinner, along with the "famous" Sandy's mai tai, draft beers, and wines. A dog menu with grilled chicken or ground beef entrees includes a $1 donation to Huntington Dog Beach with each meal purchased.
  • Fred's Mexican Café - This downtown dining landmark at Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street has one of the best views in town. Perch on the second-floor patio to catch a sunset with a 20-ounce margarita or cerveza goblet in hand. The dog menu is curated for big and little paws, with a choice of chicken or beef with kibble - either way, $1 from your meal supports the upkeep of Huntington Dog Beach.
  • Mama's on 39 - Roll out of bed and over to Mama's on 39, where locals love the bottomless mimosas and Sunday "PJs" brunch that offers guests wearing pajamas 20 percent off before 10 a.m. The Beach Boulevard restaurant is known for its breakfast feasts like chicken and waffles, but also serves homestyle dishes for lunch and dinner out on its pet-friendly patio.
  • Kathy May's Lakeview Café - Nestled inside Huntington Central Park, the cafe draws hungry visitors with a menu of sweet and savory family favorites such as cinnamon rolls, eggs benedict, and a country skillet smothered in gravy. Take a seat under a red umbrella on the patio, where your pup will have plenty to look at from a prime location on the shore of Huntington Lake.
  • Watertable - Seasonal American fare, artisanal cocktails, world-class wines, and a dog-friendly patio - all within walking distance from Downtown Huntington Beach and the pier. Watertable at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa serves up the best HB has to offer and is open for breakfast and dinner daily.
  • Cruisers - This downtown pizza bar and grill is all about sports, with more than two dozen big screens showing everything from March Madness to title fights. Enjoy thin crust and stuffed Chicago pizza with a cold beer out on the patio, where you and your dog can play a round of giant Jenga while catching highlights from the latest games.
  • Lot 579 - This modern food hall is a cornerstone of Pacific City's dining scene, with a dozen restaurants, dessert bars, and artisanal shops. If you're visiting with your dog, check out Bear Flag Fish Co, which offers freshly prepared seafood of all varieties, from sushi and poke to burritos, soups, and salads.

What to Do

Huntington Dog Beach

  • Huntington Dog Beach - Romp through the surf at Huntington Dog Beach, a sandy pooch's paradise. This stretch of beach spans 1.5 miles along Huntington City Beach between Seapoint Ave. and Goldenwest St. Canines gallop freely along the water's edge, fetching frisbees and giving chase to new friends. Waterdogs are also welcome to paddle out with swimmers and surfers.
  • Best Friend Dog Park - Hit the dirt at Best Friend Dog Park, situated on the edge of Huntington Central Park at Edwards St. and Talbert Ave. With separate dog runs for large and small pups, the fenced-in space offers something for every wagging tail, including donated balls, water stations, agility obstacles, artfully painted benches, and plenty of space to run wild. Before or after, leash up your canine companion and stroll the various trails weaving through the rest of the picturesque park.
  • Top Dog Barkery - There's always room for more toys or an extra treat - especially if you've got four legs and a tail. Close out an action-packed day by stopping by Downtown HB's Top Dog Barkery. They have an endless selection of doggie treats and toys - you can even give your pal a bath if they got a little bit too messy at Dog Beach or the park.
