Located in Huntington Central Park, the 18-acre Shipley Nature Center lets you escape into a protected corner of natural Southern California, where more than 200 bird species have been spotted. The nature center is an ideal family outing that manages to be both fun and educational.
With over 4,000 feet of trails, Shipley Nature Center allows you to meander peacefully through several habitats, including oak woodlands, Torrey pines, meadows, and Blackbird Pond, a natural freshwater wetland with mature willows and sycamores.
Shipley Nature Center is open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm and is located off Goldenwest Street, near Talbert Avenue. It is also open 9 am to 4 pm on the second Saturday of each month. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated. Free parking is available just a short walk from the center's main gate. Educational tours and events are held frequently throughout the year. The center is closed Sundays and all major holidays.
