Readers of the Orange County Register have voted Huntington Beach as one of the best places to celebrate the 4th of July multiple times over and it's no wonder why. With fireworks off the Huntington Beach Pier, the longest parade west of the Mississippi River, a multi-day festival and more, Surf City USA has been celebrating our nation's independence for over 100 years and does it up like no other community in Southern California.
The biggest draw on the 4th of July is the free fireworks show that takes place off the Huntington Beach Pier. Visitors gather along the coast and on the beach for miles, even renting premium hotel rooms with an ocean view along the Huntington Beach coast, to celebrate our nation's independence. Fireworks viewing is free from the beach, but those who want to get closer to the action can purchase tickets to sit on the pier.
The annual Independence Day Parade is over two miles and two hours long and includes floats, marching bands, civic organizations and celebrity guests. It begins on Pacific Coast Highway, travels up Main Street through downtown Huntington Beach, and ends by the Civic Center. The parade is televised locally each year and, while seating along the parade route is free, tickets can be purchased for premium bleacher seating just past downtown.
In addition to the fireworks and parade, a multi-day festival at Pier Plaza, next to the Huntington Beach Pier, offers children's activities, entertainment, and food and merchant vendors. The celebration also includes a 5K run/walk and a pancake breakfast on the morning of July 4th. For more information about the 4th of July Celebration, visit the event's official website.
