The parade displays historic horse-drawn carriages, traditionally decorated floats, and all Oktoberfest bands. Old Word celebrates with their own parade, following the same traditions as Munich. It's a great way to have fun, march with the bands playing Oom Pah Pah Music and the Shot Girls leading the festivities. Old World’s parade marches through Bella Terra, and will end at Old World’s Festival Hall. The Master of Ceremonies will insert the first tap into the first keg and with a cry of “O’zapft is” — “It’s Tapped,” Old World’s Oktoberfest will be opened to the public.
German Music To Sing & Dance To
German Bands are the highlight of any Oktoberfest celebration. During the year Old World Restaurant researches the best and most entertaining bands in Europe and this year they were lucky enough to find 4 great bands to entertain guests this Oktoberfest as they celebrate their 40th anniversary. These traditional Oom Pah bands from Germany, give guests the most authentic experience and they will keep the festivities going and get us singing along to those wonderful German drinking songs. Bands will be playing on Friday and Saturday evenings during Oktoberfest.
The History of Oktoberfest
For those who might be interested… The history of Oktoberfest dates back to the early 1800’s. Originally it started in the third weekend of September, and ran through the first Sunday of October. Crown Price Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, was married to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on the 12th of October, 1810. The citizens of Munich, the Bavarian capital, were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates. Horse races ensued, small beer stands were erected, and later larger beer halls and tents replace the smaller stands. It has grown significantly since those early years, and is popular throughout Europe and the United States. The local name for Oktoberfest, “Wies’n” is derived from Theresienwiese, the name of the field on which the festival is held.
