Bolsa Chica State Ecological Reserve

Consisting of 1,700 acres, the Bolsa Chica State Ecological Reserve is one of the largest salt marshes in Southern California, and one of the last remaining untouched landscapes of Huntington Beach.

With over 200 species of birds, Bolsa Chica offers some of the finest birding opportunities in the country. California Least Terns, Brown Pelicans, Peregrine Falcons and Bald Eagles are just a few of the endangered birds that call the reserve home at one time or another throughout the year.

Marine and wildlife also flourish on the reserve’s marsh, dune and island terrain. Coyotes, crabs, snakes, lizards, jackrabbits and occasionally even sharks can be spotted in Bolsa Chica.

Before you begin exploring the reserve, visit the Bolsa Chica Interpretive Center for educational exhibits, history, maps, souvenirs, birding books and trail information.
