California State Lifeguards

California State LifeguardsWhen people from around the country think of California state lifeguards, they inevitably — and unfortunately — visualize Baywatch, the Los Angeles County-based mid-90’s TV show that made California lifeguarding “famous.”

In reality, the official training grounds of the California State Lifeguards takes place right here in Surf City at the Huntington State Beach, and it’s nothing like the TV series.

Over 100 California State Lifeguards are employed on the beaches of Huntington Beach, all trained in every aspect of life-saving first aid, water rescue and even oil spills, terrorism and earthquakes.

Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguards

The shores of Huntington Beach also play host to the Huntington Beach State Junior Lifeguards program. Each year, young inspiring lifeguards are taught the basics of water safety, first aid and lifesaving techniques. The Huntington Beach State Junior Lifeguards program is world-renowned and trains over 1,100 students each year.
