Huntington City Beach Marine Safety
The
City of Huntington Beach wants everyone to enjoy their days of fun in
the sun. Both Ocean Lifeguards and Marine Safety Officers patrol Huntington City Beach, keeping the beaches safe for you and your family.
Marine Safety staff are highly skilled experts in aquatic rescue and
incident command, performing over 4,000 rescues in 2008. They
are trained in specialized beach and water rescue techniques. Marine
Safety Officers also go through rigorous additional training such as
Emergency Medical Technician certification and are deputized Peace
Officers. To see for yourself, check out episodes of Ocean Force: Huntington Beach, O.C., which features Huntington City Beach Lifeguards and Marine Safety Officers in action.
Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard Program
The shores of Huntington City Beach also play host to the
Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard program. Each year, young inspiring
lifeguards are taught the basics of water safety, first aid and
lifesaving techniques. The Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguards program,
established in 1964, is world-renowned and now trains over 1,100
students each year.
California State Lifeguards
When people from around the country think of California lifeguards, they inevitably — and unfortunately — visualize Baywatch, the Los Angeles County-based mid-90’s TV show that made California lifeguarding “famous.”
In reality, the official training grounds of the California State Lifeguards takes place right here in Surf City at the Huntington State Beach, and it’s nothing like the TV series.
Over 100 California State Lifeguards are employed on the two state
beaches of Huntington Beach, all trained in every aspect of life-saving
first aid, water rescue and even oil spills, terrorism and earthquakes.
